Here is a post from my Facebook page that I felt was vey important. This was when there was still a lot of snow on the ground from the first snow storm of February 2014.
"I created this page so that everyone could have a safe environment to vent their feelings about the problems in the NYC Public School system. I'm just like each and every one of you and now it's my turn to vent.
The call to leave schools open yesterday was wrong but my intentions for this page go a lot deeper than just one day. During these past few weeks I've heard teachers being referred to as "glorified babysitters". It's sad that everyday, this term becomes more and more true. I understand some parents work and school is a safe place, but you can't leave schools open so that teachers can risk their lives coming in to watch your kids. Also, for years I've thought that Staten Island is not the same as Manhattan, or Brooklyn is not the same as The Bronx. Even Queens can see different results from one side of the borough to the other. . .

A solution that I have come up with is dividing the NYC Public Schools into branches (remaining a part of the NYCDOE but having more representatives than just the Chancellor). Meaning, Staten Island determines whether or not to close schools on Staten Island and Manhattan does for their borough and The Bronx for their's, etc. You can't compare one part of the city to another; the differences are too drastic! Considering how many likes this page has received, I hope the Mayor and Chancellor see this! So I'll end off with a direct message for both of them:
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chancellor Carmen Fariña,
You've made a mistake and lost all of NYC's faith that you can do your job properly. Not only do you have to gain our faith and respect back, but you also have to learn from your mistakes! And if that means you have to step down and give the position to someone more worthy, then so be it. We are the largest school district in the nation; if the state is in a state of emergency and the pinnacle of the nation still wants school children to come in for the day, you're just making yourselves look bad. You're a new mayor Mr. de Blasio and sadly, you've made us miss the Bloomberg administration... and we all carry a deep hatred for those awful 11 years. This is not just a page with a few likes anymore, it's in a sense a petition that has gained over 50,000 "signatures". It's time for you to acknowledge your mistakes and improve for the next time."
